Dear AAIM,

I want to thank the many individuals who have expressed their good wishes and congratulations to me as I take the helm at Austin Area Interreligious Ministries. I feel deeply humbled to be here and grateful for your words of support. AAIM is an incredibly valuable resource for the people of Central Texas, one that is truly planting the seeds of hope in our community. As I begin this new adventure, I would like to challenge you to become more involved in our exciting mission of uniting faith and cultural communities in the service of the common good.

Last autumn's Thanksgiving service was a powerful reminder of why AAIM is needed and the genuine beauty of our cause. We repair homes and hearts, we reach out to refugees and the homeless, we build bridges of understanding and respect. All of these things are truly worthy of celebration - of thanksgiving! With your financial support and personal involvement AAIM will help Austin become a national model of inter- religious partnership. This is exciting work. It is God's work. Join us.

While you're looking ahead, please save dates for the Annual CROP Walk for Hunger, March 1st and 2nd, and the Hands On Housing Bluebonnet Blitz, April 25-27 and May 4th. I also strongly encourage all religious leaders to participate in the Clergy Climate Connection Conference coming up next Monday, February 18th. Read more below, and visit our website, www.aaimaustin.org , regularly for updates.

May we all grow in peace,
Tom Spencer
Chief Executive Officer

Austin Clergy Climate Connection Conference -- RSVP TODAY!

A Dialogue on Clergy Response to Climate Change and the Environment

Monday, February 18, 2008, 7:30 a.m.
Congregation Beth Israel
3800 Shoal Creek Boulevard

*** Attention all Religious Leaders ***

Please RSVP as soon as possible
to Texas Interfaith Power & Light at cara@texasimpa ct.orgor by calling 472-3903. There is no charge for this event. Your presence is needed to ensure a comprehensive discussion of climate change that includes representatives from diverse faiths, congregations, and neighborhoods of Austin.

This interfaith forum will address the challenges involved in discussing environmental issues with congregations, ongoing and planned environmental projects at Austin congregations, and updates on environmental initiatives at the local, state, federal and international levels.

Our primary goal in holding this forum is to provide an opportunity for Austin clergy to meet other religious leaders from our local community who are interested in environmental issues in a faith context, and to explore ways we can network, collaborate, and support each other. To that end, the forum will include generous time for structured and unstructured discussion as well as a time for planning follow-up for those who are so inclined.

This forum represents a valuable opportunity for Austin clergy of different faith traditions to come together and learn from each other, and to form local relationships so that together we, as the leaders of the Austin religious community, can face the incredible challenges confronting our planet with a shared vision and focus.

Austin Texas Co-Chairs: Rabbi Steve Folberg, Congregation Beth Israel; Father Jim Wiesner, St. Austin's Catholic Parish (Invited); Reverend Tina Carter, The Rock United Methodist Church (Invited)

Sponsors: Texas Impact/Texas Interfaith Power & Light, Austin Area Interreligious Ministries

CROP Walk for Hunger is an annual nationwide event sponsored locally by AAIM. In 2007, walkers representing some 110 faith communities and other organizations raised almost $122,000.

Twenty-five percent of the funds raised stay in Austin to support food needs in local agencies. The rest go to more than 80 countries to alleviate hunger worldwide.

To make this happen, we need walkers. We need YOU! Find the CROP recruiter in your faith organization and get registered. If you don't have a recruiter, give us a call or register online at: www.cropwalk.org
