AAIM assists about 10 families annually with financial support to help bury their loved ones. This is the legacy program of Alfred Spanton, a homeless man who died penniless in 1983 and left much of his estate to pay the expenses of funerals for poor people.
The Spanton Burial Fund is dispensed on an as-needed and as-can basis. In accordance with Mr. Spanton's wishes, funds may only be drawn from the interest accrued on his estate, ensuring that his humble legacy will continue to help future generations of those in need.
AAIM fulfilled tremendous needs in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, and the entirety of the Fund's interest was dispensed in the difficult times that followed. The Spanton Burial Fund remains unavailable as of January 2010 as we await its growth and restoration. We thank you for your patience and understanding.
